Government approves public sector pay deal

By February 14, 2024No Comments

The Government has given formal approval to the public sector pay deal agreed last month.

Following negotiations at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC), unions, staff associations and government representatives reached agreement on a package that provides for increases of 10.25% over a two and a half year period.

The agreement will cost around €3.6 billion and includes a local bargaining mechanism to allow individual grades, groups and categories of public servants to raise specific issues.

Union members will vote on the deal over the coming weeks with the outcome of ballots expected to be known by 25 March.

Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform Paschal Donohoe today welcomed Government approval of the deal.

“I believe that the agreement seeks to achieve a balanced approach to public service pay that rewards the ongoing efforts of public servants, while ensuring the responsible management of public finances,” Mr Donohoe said.

“The agreement will underpin the ongoing transformation of our public services, allowing reform to continue in a collaborative and cooperative way,” he added.
